Review: The Oberoi Beach Resort, Al Zorah

This stunning resort on the shores of Ajman is only a short drive away from Dubai, yet it feels like a world away from the bustle, thanks to its secluded setting

There hasn’t been a single holiday experience where I found myself 100 percent pleased. Even the best vacation memories have a tinge of grey in some form or the other. At The Oberoi Beach Resort, Al Zorah it was having to say goodbye to what could only be labelled as the best resort in Ajman after an unforgettable stay.

While saying goodbye to this fantastic retreat will be one of the hardest things to do, getting a reservation itself can be even more challenging. But once you visit, you won’t be surprised as to why The Oberoi Beach Resort, Al Zorah is almost always fully booked, week in and week out.

This slice of paradise on the shores of Ajman feels more like a piece of the Mediterranean – or even the Maldives – thanks to its pristine setting. So for those of you missing your travels owing to the pandemic, this lush retreat is sure to give you all the tropical holiday feels.

The setting

The Oberoi Beach Resort, Al Zorah invites guests to leave all their troubles behind and truly disconnect. The resort boasts a unique setting – flanked by the clear waters of the Arabian Gulf on one side and one million square metres of mangroves on the other. During the winter months, the protected reserve serves as a sanctuary to over 60 different species of migratory birds.

Making the most of its natural surrounds, the resort is rendered in a natural palette, syncing perfectly with the white sand beach and panoramic ocean views. Complementing this backdrop is the resort’s contemporary architecture with wide-open spaces and creative touches in the décor.

With just 89 gorgeous rooms, suites, and villas at the resort, seclusion naturally follows. Except at mealtimes, where you come across fellow guests, you’ll hardly see another soul (even though the resort is fully booked). A boon for pandemic times!

The contemporary set-up in your abode is thanks to the vision of Italian architect Piero Lissoni – think clean lines, unique décor, a muted palette, private panoramic terraces overlooking the pool, landscaped gardens and the beach.

For those looking to make the most of their stay, the Deluxe Suite with a Private Terrace offers an experience unlike any other. Spanning 109 square metres, this oasis offers both ocean and mangrove views, which means you can catch both the sunrise and sunset from the comfort of your not-so-humble abode.

The Oberoi Beach Resort, Al Zorah boasts an 85-metre-long infinity pool that can put all other swimming pools in the UAE to shame. I’d like to see Olympian swimmers attempt to finish this one in record time. Its incomparable length is also what lends itself to these social-distancing times, where you could choose your own little corner and still soak up every bit of the luxury without having to interact with anyone else.

If you’re looking to extend your downtime, head to the beach, which is as secluded as it can get in the UAE or opt for a personalised spa treatment.

Set against endless ocean views, the dining venues at The Oberoi Beach Resort, Al Zorah promise exceptional experiences with gourmet treats. Start your day with a power-packed breakfast at Vinesse, enjoy freshly brewed coffee at The Library and wind down for the evening with a sumptuous dinner at Aquario. With settings that match the culinary offering, this completes a truly mesmerising vacation experience.

We can’t wait to head back!
