The Al Marmoom Camel Racetrack will begin welcoming visitors once again from January 1 with the return of its famous camel racing competition. Witness the ships of the desert in a setting quite unlike any other with this centuries-old tradition. Reaching speeds close to 65 kilometres per hour, the event sees these creatures race down the track in a bid to win valuable prizes with support from their breeders and trainers, while enthusiastic spectators cheer them on. These annual races aim to preserve the UAE’s cultural heritage, and with the local community present in full force, the event is one of the best ways to experience this deeply-rooted Emirati tradition. Races are held on Friday mornings until April.
