Montblanc’s natural connection

The Swiss maison takes its spirit of exploration to new heights with four new editions of the Montblanc 1858 collection that pay tribute to the Minerva manufacture’s heritage

This year sees Montblanc’s Minerva manufacture mark more than 160 years of fine watchmaking history. Paying tribute to this rich legacy, the Swiss maison raised the curtain on four new editions of the Montblanc 1858 collection earlier this year – two Montblanc 1858 Automatic models, a Montblanc 1858 Automatic Chronograph and Montblanc 1858 Geosphere. The historic Minerva pocket watches and chronographs from the 1920s and 1930s, which were conceived for military use and exploration, serve as the inspiration for this new line-up. And Montblanc reaffirms its passion for the great outdoors with an elegant pairing of green and bronze highlighted in three pieces of the collection.

Precise, legible and robust for use in extreme conditions, these horological masterpieces make the ideal companions for fearless adventurers and explorers looking to reconnect with nature and conquer new heights. The two new Montblanc 1858 Automatic models come in a choice of colour pairings. The first features a full bronze 40mm case (previous versions had a steel case and a bronze bezel) with a khaki-green dial, while the second packs in a striking combination of a steel case with a black dial. The new 1858 Montblanc 1858 Automatic Chronograph comes in a 42mm full bronze case with a khaki-green dial, providing the ideal backdrop for the bi-compax counters.

The fourth model is a reimagination of the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere which was introduced in 2018. Dedicated to the Seven Summits Challenge – the world-famous mountaineering feat that sees climbers scaling the highest mountain on each of the seven continents – this year’s edition features a new colour palette, once again highlighting the new green-bronze theme. The dial complications of the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere are meant to be as visually striking as they are useful to an enthusiast out and about on his next hike. Two rotating globes on the dial (that also move with the dial) display the northern and southern hemispheres, allowing the wearer to tell the time in other parts of the world as well as whether it’s day or night there. All in all, when style is as important as utility, the new Montblanc 1858 collection checks all the boxes.
