For the first time in the 20-year history of the gated 225-square-kilometre Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR), visitors can enjoy a self-drive safari in their own vehicles through the unique area under the expert guidance of Sand Sherpa.

The sunset adventure begins with a self-drive safari as we guide and instruct participants over hand-held radios and spot indigenous wildlife, including gazelle, oryx, monitor lizards and countless birds, and discover fox dens and natural phenomena. Adults and kids alike will learn all about the desert, its history and its inhabitants during this informative 75-minute safari.

Upon arrival at Sherpa Camp, participants will be able to enjoy a birds of prey interaction as the sun sets in the desert, which, during summer, experiences lesser humidity than the city, making it the ideal spot for an escape in nature that is close to home. An indigenous owl, hawk, eagle and falcon join us for a unique experience in the desert and every participant can take turns walking with, and flying, our trained birds of prey.

Itinerary:
16:45: Meet and registration at the DDCR Gate
17:00: Guests clear into the reserve
17:00 - 18:15: Wildlife safari drive
18:15 - 19:00: Birds of prey interaction and falconry show
19:00 - 19:45: Time at leisure
19:45: Departure to gate

Terms & Conditions

  • A minimum of three individual bookings is required for the experience to take place.
  • The experience begins at the DDCR Margham Gate at 4:45pm and ends at 7:45pm. 
  • A 4x4 vehicle (with high and low ratio gearbox) is required to join the experience. But for participants who do not wish to drive in the reserve, a 4x4 return transfer can be arranged from the DDCR Margham Gate to the campsite and back for a supplement of AED150 per family of up to two adults and two children.
  • No pets are allowed to be carried within vehicles.
  • All vehicles should be standard as per the manufacturer or the organiser be advised of modifications that may affect the vehicle's behaviour off-road.
  • The organiser reserves the right to refuse participation in the event if the participant is deemed to be unprepared or is not cooperative with instruction and/or feedback.
  • Participants accept that driving off-road can be dangerous and that vehicles and their occupants are at risk when participating in desert experiences.
  • Safety is paramount and customers may choose whether or not to follow in the path of the lead vehicle.
  • No liability or responsibility will be placed on the organiser or accepted by the organiser in case of injury or death to participants under any circumstances.
  • Adherence to speed limits in the reserve is mandatory.
  • Convoy and tracks to be followed at all times.
  • Sand Sherpa reserves the right to reassign the date of the experience due to inclement weather.

Cancellation Policy

  • Bookings, once processed, cannot be cancelled.
  • Experience dates can be amended by getting in touch with our team at least 72 hours before the booking.
  • No refund will be made in case of cancellations or no-shows.

The allocated credit card will be blocked with the total amount of your booking while the booking request is confirmed with the Supplier and will only be charged upon successful confirmation.
